Wow, Now That's A Blogging Break

Well, I suppose you thought I was gone forever.  Honestly, you could have been right.  Blogging is so much harder that I thought it would be.  What's the point if you have so little to say.  I found it very difficult to find great things to blog about.  I missed the point......I started this blog to make myself more accountable and to remind myself of the joys that I have in my life, you know.

So today, I start anew, for me.  I'll post my weekly menus again.  I'll also post things that I want to share with my friends and family, pictures, recipes, etc.  I won't try to "find" things to blog about, I'll just blog.

Many Blessings.....Mimi

IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS!

I'm sorry that I haven't posted very much lately.  My first born son is now gone back to CA.  He and his sweet little family (my beautiful little Gracie) will be leaving soon for their time in Japan.  Gracie is growing so much and changing every day.  It makes me sad that I won't get to physically see them, but we are HUGE fans of Skype so it will makes their leaving a little easier knowing that I will "see" them again soon.

As you can tell, I'm working on my blog for Christmas!  I am such a NOVICE when it comes to all this blogging, but I'm having a great time trying to teach myself how to make backgrounds and headers.  I found a great ebook that has really helped me when working with all of this code.  Go HERE to read all about it.  I am still working on the blog design for Christmas so don't be surprised if you come back for a visit and it has changed some.  I expect to have it the way I want within a day or so.

We had our family Thanksgiving last Sunday.  It was a wonderful time with all my boys, their sweet families, my mother, mother-in-law, and very dear friends.  We will be going to my husband's sister's house on Thursday for their Thanksgiving.  I'm sure that it will be fun, but I can't help but feel like Thanksgiving is over.  Now all I want to do is think about CHRISTMAS.  I have so much to do.........I'm really excited to get the tree and decorations up, shop, wrap gifts, go to all the parties and BAKE!  Be checking back for some really great family recipes that I KNOW you will love.

Why I’ve Been MIA

I am so sorry that I haven’t posted lately.  But I have a very good reason!

209

MY FIRST BORN SON just came back to the US from his Navy tour (he is a pilot) to the Afghanistan region.

We’ve had a really wonderful time catching up and had a HUGE Thanksgiving dinner last Sunday.  He and his family leave on Saturday to go back to CA until early December, then they are off to Japan for 2.5 years.

See you sometime next week!

Be Blessed……Mimi

AIN'T SHE PURTY!

My birthday is in a couple of days and my dear sweet husband got this for me early.  Sorry for the blurry picture quality.  I'm so excited that I was shaking when I tried to take pictures.  She's my new best friend.  I think I will name her Lola..........I'm off to make bread, cookies, cakes and whatever else I can find to make with her.  Oh, well after all it is the holidays, right?

Trash to Treasure Tuesday

I've been wanting to participate in Trash To Treasure Tuesday over at Reinvented for quite some time now.  I did this little transformation a little while back when I went hog wild with the Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint.  I've had this brass candle holder for at least 30 years and loved it.  I actually found it stuck in the very back of my junk closet, hiding, and thought it would be great transformed to the more updated colors that I have in my house. Brass had it's place here at one time, but no more.......I'd love to know what you think!

Before

After

I love it!  Now I am on the hunt for accessories to go with it and a pretty new home for it somewhere in my house.  Don't forget to stop by Reinvented and see all the great posts there, they are so fun to see.....

Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Today I want to share with you another recipe that has been in my family for many, many years.  I've been making this peach cobbler all of my married life.  I honestly don't know where I got the recipe all those years ago but it has always been a huge hit with my boys and husband.

So here are the ingredients:

4 cups of sliced fresh peaches (you can use canned, but fresh is better)
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of shortening
1/4 cup plus 1 tblsp. cold water

Okay, so I forgot to take pictures until after I had already put the peaches, sugar and butter in a medium saucepan.  You will bring that to a boil over low heat until the peaches are tender and the mixture thickens. This takes a little while.  Pour the peach mixture in a lightly buttered 10X6X2 inch baking pan and set aside.

Combine the flour and salt together and cut in the shortening until it resembles coarse meal.  Sprinkle the water evenly over the flour mixture and stir it with a fork until all the ingredients are moistened.  Shape pastry into a ball.  Roll out the pastry to 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface and cut into 1 inch strips.

Arrange 1/2 of the strips in a lattice design over the top of the peach mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.  Remove from the oven and gently press the baked pastry into the peach mixture.  Repeat the lattice design again over the peaches with the remaining pastry strips.  Return to the oven and bake for an additional 40 minutes. Yields 6 servings.

If you haven't already guessed, I love me some carbs!!!!  This cobbler is so yummy for your tummy!

I'm linking this post to two of my favorite blogs this week.  Check them both out for more great recipes to add to your current collection.

Blessed with Grace
